HB 1159, which updates the State Building Code, has been signed into law by Governor Ayotte. The effective date is July 1, 2026.

This update will formally adopt the 2024 editions of the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Existing Building Code, International Plumbing Code, International Mechanical Code and International Pool and Spa Code.

The Energy Code will remain as the 2018 edition of the International Energy Conservation Code, and the Electrical Code will remain as the 2023 edition of NFPA 70.

There is a 6-month grace period between July 1, 2026 and December 31, 2026 where an applicant can choose between the 2021 and 2024 editions of the International Codes in their entirety for construction project. In other words, utilizing individual provisions from each Code edition would not be allowed.
