Location:Main Library

Enjoy a night of art appreciation to help us celebrate our country's 250th anniversary this year! Join us over Zoom or in-person in the Winchell Room as art historian and educator Mallory Mortillaro explores how the art of the Revolutionary War has affecting our understanding of it. We all know the story of the Revolutionary War, but how much of our understanding is colored by the way the war was depicted by artists? Paintings of the American Revolution have been essential in the way that the war was understood, both at the time of the conflict and for generations after. This lecture will explore well-known paintings such as Emanuel Leutze's Washington Crossing the Delaware, John Trumbull's Declaration of Independence, and Asher Durand's The Capture of Major André. Sign up below to receive a Zoom invitation to the event, or you can come to attend at the Library in the Winchell Room.
